Interview Summary
Anne McCarty Braden (1924-2006) and her husband Carl Braden (1914-1975) worked in the civil rights movement in Jefferson County, Kentucky. Anne Braden discusses her background and upbringing, as well as her and her husband's dedication to social justice. She goes over her work in activism, her feelings on the how racism has changed over time, and the history of civil rights activism in Kentucky. Braden also talks about a court case she was a part of, where she and her husband purchased a house in Shively, a Louisville neighborhood, for a Black family during Jim Crow, which was bombed by White neighbors. This resulted in Carl Braden being charged with sedition for buying the home initially. The interviews in this collection were conducted by middle school students as part of an educational media project under the direction of Henderson County North Middle School teacher Roy Pullam.Interview Accession
