Interview Summary
C. Douglas Dillon, a former diplomat and employee of the State Department, begins the interview by remembering how he met Cooper. Dillon describes Cooper's time spent as U.S. Ambassador to India in 1955-1956. Dillon assesses foreign policy issues in the 1980s. Dillon also talks of Cooper's return to the Senate in 1956. Cooper's foreign policy positions are explored. The interviewee details Cooper's policy on foreign aid to India. The friendship between John F. Kennedy and Cooper is explored. Dillon shares his and Cooper's views on the economic policies of John F. Kennedy. Dillon highlights the dynamics between Cooper and President Johnson.
