Interview Summary
Richard Parker (Cote d'Ivoire, 1973-1974; Morocco, 1976-1978; Education Program) joined the Air Force after high school and received electronics training. He worked in civilian electronics after his time in the Air Force. A friend recommended he join the Peace Corps. He applied and three months later was accepted as an electronics specialist in Ivory Coast. He discusses his daily life, work, and recreation. He discusses in detail his motorcycle accident, which forced him to leave the Ivory Coast. Parker was accepted to go to Morocco for his second Peace Corps experience. He was recruited for a vocational education program helping develop curriculum for teaching electronics. Parker compares his two Peace Corps experiences. He also discusses his life and educational background both before and after joining the Peace Corps, including getting his B.A. at Murray State University at 49 and teaching English as a Second Language.Interview Accession
