Project Summary

The University of Kentucky Cheerleaders have led the crowds in cheering on the Big Blue since 1905 and have evolved over 100 plus years to go from 'yell leaders' to a competitive athletic sport. This storied athletic program has reeled in an unprecedented 23 National Championships; the highest number of championships of any collegiate sport by any university or college in the United States. This collection of oral histories digs deep into the story of the cheerleading squad; not only the championships but also the friendships, leadership, trust, courage and commitment to excellence in the sport.
